Front Street Sweets is happy to announce that we will soon be expanding our space and our menu offering to our customers full breakfast, lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Our menu will now host a new ensemble of tantalizing comfort foods.

A note from the Proprietor…

During the late 1800’s to mid-1900’s, the Front Street area of downtown Hartford was a hub of activity. The immigrants who settled in this section found themselves living, working and building the city together, regardless of language or cultural barriers. Many of these hard-working people established businesses, my grandfather among them, that were later passed on to their children.  In their need for reasonable housing, food and entertainment for their families, the immigrants established , with pride, a micro-community that has enriched Hartford for future generations. Front street became the heart and soul of the city and is still remembered today fondly by those who lived there. This vibrant part of downtown Hartford thrived until it was obliterated in 1959 by an ill-conceived attempt of urban renewal and replaced by Constitution Plaza.

My grandfather, Biaggio DePasquale, who emigrated from Italy, began his career as a baker and grocer on Front Street. Through hard-work and dedication, he later opened DePasquale’s Restaurant, still remembered as a well-known establishment that was frequented by celebrities who performed at the nearby State Theatre. My grandfather has not only passed down his legacy to me, but also my yearning to revitalize some of the flavorful quality of times gone by.

Through my dedication to bringing you only the best, I am surrounding myself with a top-notch staff. I am delighted to have Chef John Twichell on board, who brings energy, creativity and a love for his craft. His “work” is like the elements of his personality--playful and witty.

Front Street Sweets pays homage to both my grandfather and all the others who gave Hartford a rich, cultural heritage. My staff and I hope to bring to you the same vibrancy and dedication.
